Now Facebook delays return to office till early next year
Earlier this month, Facebook had said that it would require its US employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19 when they return to the office. "Data, not dates, is what drives our approach for returning to the office. Given the recent health data showing rising Covid cases based on the Delta variant, our teams in the US will not be required to go back to the office until January 2022," a company spokesperson told The Verge on Thursday.
Zambia 'restricts' WhatsApp, Twitter on polling day
Several users from the country took to Twitter informing that WhatsApp has been restricted amid the ongoing general elections today. Internet monitoring firm Netblocks tweeted that Zambia has restricted access to various social messaging platforms. The Zambian government, however, denied the reports, calling them "malicious."
Reddit is now valued at over $10bn: Report
According to The Verge, the company continues to build and sanitise its business, removing racist, misogynist and otherwise controversial communities, as it prepares to go public at some point in the future. "We are still planning on going public, but we don't have a firm timeline there yet," Steve Huffman,Aco-founder and CEO, Reddit, was quoted as saying to The New York Times in an interview.
Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro to use Samsung GN1 50MP sensor: Report
The rumour was confirmed by a code in Google's new Camera app, which arrived with the Android 12 Beta 4, GSMArena reported on Thursday. According to the report, the code mentions 'p21', which refers to the upcoming Pixel 6 series, attached to a 'gn1_wide', which is very straightforward to decipher. The GN1 sensor, which Samsung unveiled last May, has 1.2µm-sized pixels before binning.
India sees 3.2 mn PCs shipped at over 50% growth in Q2
A total of 3.2 million PCs were shipped in the quarter, with all product categories reporting strong double-digit growth. In the absence of any large education and government deal, this was the second consecutive quarter when India's PC market saw shipments of over 3 million PCs, underlining the growth in the enterprise, SMB, and consumer segments, according to the IDC data.
Zoom aims to make virtual classes distraction free with 'Focus Mode'
The company said that Focus Mode allows educators to see their students' videos and students to see their teachers without seeing other class participants. "With this feature, teachers can supervise their class, but students won't be distracted by their peers' video feeds or feel self-conscious about turning on their own camera," the company said in a blogpost on Wednesday.

The company also said it aims to achieve 10 million downloads in the next 12-14 months."We are delighted to achieve this growth in such a short span. The company detailed the Chirp font as one part of a broader brand refresh, unveiled in January, and now it said that it is ready to be used. "Today, we released a few changes to the way Twitter looks on the web and on your phone. While it might feel weird at first, these updates make us more accessible, unique and focused on you and what you are talking about," the company wrote on the platform on Wednesday.
Google launches Android 12 beta 4 with new user-friendly tools
The Game Mode allows developers to optimise gameplay by prioritizing characteristics, such as performance or battery life based on users settings or game specific configurations. Android 12 introduces AppSearch, a high-performance on-device search engine, as a system service. "AppSearch allows applications to index structured data and search over it with built-in full-text search capabilities," according to a Google update.
Local language tech platform VerSe Innovation raises $450 mn
The company said the investment will be focused on strengthening its leadership position as the fastest growing local language AI-driven content platform in the country. The multi-million-dollar investment follows a $200 million+ fund raise from Falcon Edge Capital via Alpha Wave Ventures, Glade Brook Capital Partners, Google, Microsoft and QIA in February this year, taking the total capital raise in the first half of 2021 to beyond $650 million.
