The Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, a single-day javelin throw competition to be held on May 24 in Bengaluru, will see a star-studded field of international throwers, with reigning World Champion Anderson Peters and Olympic gold medallist Thomas Rohler from the 2016 Olympics.
Co-organized by India's two-Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra, JSW Sport, Athletics Federation of India, and World Athletics, the event will take place at Bengaluru's Sri Kanteerva Stadium.
The event this year will be India's largest one-day athletics meet, all centered around the javelin throw, and include some of the sport's greatest legends.
These are the best athletes taking part:
Anderson Peters (Grenada): Two-time World Champion (2019, 2022) and current Pan American Games gold medallist, Peters is renowned for his powerful throws, with a best of 93.07m.
Thomas Rohler (Germany): A giant of the sport, Rohler took the 2016 Olympics gold and boasts a best of 93.90m.
Julius Yego (Kenya): World Champion (2015) and Olympic silver medallist (2016), Yego has been at the forefront of popularizing javelin in Africa. His personal best is 92.72m.
Curtis Thompson (USA): Top American javelin thrower, Thompson is a Pan American Games champion (2023) and a frequent Diamond League competitor with a personal best of 87.76m.
Genki Dean (Japan): Bronze medalist at the 2023 Asian Games, Dean is a top-10 ranked world athlete with a personal best of 84.28m, and in good form from the Asian circuit.
Luiz Mauricio da Silva (Brazil): One of the South American javelin throwers who are ruling the region, da Silva has multiple podium finishes at the South American Athletics Championships, with a personal best of 85.91m.
Rumesh Pathirage (Sri Lanka): A rising Sri Lankan young thrower, Pathirage makes his event debut here with a seasonal best of 85.45m.
Indian team, including the country's leading javelin throwers, will be announced soon, confirmed by the organizers of the event.
