India-US strategic partnership will be a defining one of 21st century, Says PM Modi

Posting the news on the social media platform X, PM Modi stated, "Delighted to host US VP JD Vance and his family in New Delhi. We discussed the rapid progress after my visit to the US and my meeting with President Trump. We are dedicated to cooperation in our mutual interest, including trade, technology, defence, energy, and people-to-people."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that the India-US strategic partnership shall be among the characteristic alliances of the 21st century after meeting with US Vice President J.D. Vance on Monday in New Delhi.

He also emphasized the importance of the developing ties, and said, "India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership will be a defining partnership of the 21st century for a better future of our people and the world."

Earlier today, PM Modi and Vice President Vance talked about developments in the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement, as well as cooperation in fields like energy, defence, and strategic technologies.

Prime Minister invited Vice President Vance, wife Second Lady Usha Vance, and children of Vance — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — home to Lok Kalyan Marg.

In their meeting, Prime Minister Modi looked back at the success of his visit to Washington, D.C. in January and his meeting with US President Donald Trump. The two leaders also pursued their earlier February meeting in Paris, during the AI Summit, where they had discussed means to deepen the strategic partnership.

The talks touched on a variety of regional and international issues, with both leaders exchanging updates on the enhancement of bilateral ties.

Prime Minister Modi also extended his greetings to President Trump, looking forward to his visit to India later this year.

This is the first US Vice President visit to India in 13 years, with the previous one being Joe Biden's visit in 2013 when he was Vice President to President Barack Obama.

Following their meeting, PM Modi wished Vice President Vance and his family a comfortable stay, which will also involve trips to Jaipur and Agra. The Vice President and his family will return to Washington on April 24.

In a gesture of cultural appreciation, Vice President Vance's children dressed in traditional Indian attire when they visited the PM's house.

Earlier, the family of Vance toured the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in Delhi and marveled at the great architecture of the temple and relished its timelessness in matters of faith, family, and harmony.
