BJP Chief Condemns Safety Issues for Women in Mamata's Bengal

"A shocking video has emerged from West Bengal, reminiscent of the savagery seen only in totalitarian regimes," the union minister posted on X. "To make matters worse, Trinamool Congress cadre and MLAs are justifying this heinous act. Whether it's Sandeshkhali, Uttar Dinajpur, or numerous other places, Didi's West Bengal is UNSAFE for women," he added.

Bharatiya Janata Party's national president, JP Nadda, criticized the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government strongly after a disturbing video surfaced showing a man brutally attacking a couple in public. Nadda asserted that women were not safe in Mamata Banerjee's West Bengal and accused Trinamool Congress cadre and MLAs of defending the act.

"To make matters worse, Trinamool Congress cadre and MLAs are justifying this heinous act. Whether it's Sandeshkhali, Uttar Dinajpur, or numerous other places, Didi's West Bengal is UNSAFE for women," he added.

In the video, the man can be seen assaulting a couple with a bamboo stick following a decision by a kangaroo court. The man was reportedly a local TMC leader from Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal.

The accused, identified as Tajmul alias JCB, has been arrested and is being held at Islampur police station. He is scheduled to appear before the ACJM court on Monday.

"Chopra police apprehended the individual and, for safety reasons, have detained him at Islampur police station," said Superintendent of Police Jobi Thomas, according to an ANI report.

While Chopra TMC MLA Hamidul Rahaman denied any affiliation of the party with the accused, he criticized the woman's behavior as "antisocial."

"We condemn the incident. However, the woman also acted improperly. She abandoned her husband, son, and daughter and turned into a malevolent entity. There are certain norms and justice in a Muslim state. Nonetheless, we do acknowledge that what transpired was somewhat excessive," the TMC MLA stated to reporters, as per a Hindustan Times report.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also lambasted the TMC, labeling it as embodying a "Talibani Mindset and Culture."

"TMC stands for Talibani Mindset and Culture. The entire nation is appalled after witnessing the brutal video depicting a Taliban-style, kangaroo court verdict being executed in broad daylight on the streets of Bengal.

The BJP leader further criticized the TMC MLA, alleging that Rahaman "has blamed the victim and has even implied that in a 'Muslim state,' there are specific terms and conditions, thereby rationalizing such barbaric acts."

He also took aim at Congress leaders, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, for their silence on the issue.
