Taking time out from his hectic schedule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning offered prayers at the Shri Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Mandir in Karol Bagh in Delhi. After offering prayers, he enthusiastically participated in the “Shabad Kirtan” with other devotees at the temple.

“Today, on the auspicious occasion of Ravidas Jayanti, I visited Sri Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Temple in Delhi. Happy Ravidas Jayanti to all the countrymen… This holy dham of Sant Ravidas ji is an inspirational place for the people. I am fortunate that as an MP, I have got the opportunity to complete the development works here,” PM Modi tweeted. He shared a recent video report which highlighted the renovation of the temple which is located at the birthplace of Sant Ravidas.
 

Saint Ravidas was an Indian poet-saint of the Bhakti-movement, born in the 14th century. He was born in Magha Purnima (full moon day in the month of Magh). He has a huge following in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab and Haryana. He dedicated his life to eradicate the scourge of Untouchability and casteism. He wrote 40 poems in the Adi Granth, which is considered a sacred scripture in Sikhism. Meera Bai, a venerated poet and devotee of Lord Krishna, was spiritually guided by Saint Ravidas.
