A five-judge Constitution bench comprising Justices S. Abdul Nazeer, B.R. Gavai, A.S. Bopanna, V. Ramasubramanian, and B.V. Nagarathna, at the outset asked the petitioners' counsel, whether the issue survives now? Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, submitted that for all practical purposes the issue will not survive, and it may be an academic exercise, for which he is ready to argue.
India logs 3,615 new Covid cases, 22 deaths

The new fatalities increased the overall death toll to 5,28,584. The active caseload at 40,979 accounts for 0.09 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 4,972 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,40,09,525. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.72 per cent.
Two terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir gunfight refused to surrender

The encounter took place on Tuesday in the Ahwatoo area. "On receipt of specific human information from JKP (Kulgam) regarding presence of terrorists in Avhotu village of Kulgam District, a joint cordon and search operation was launched in the area by Indian Army along with JKP and CRPF at about 3.20 p.m. on 27 Sep 22," the Army said in a statement.
Russia claims win in 'referendums' held in occupied Ukraine

Voting had taken place on Tuesday in the separatist eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, as well as in the Russia-occupied parts of the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, reports the BBC. Refugees scattered across Russia were also able to vote at dozens of polling stations, including in Crimea, a southern Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014.
Jammu and Kashmir comes out of shadows of terror and thrives again

In spite of a few terror attacks orchestrated mainly from across the border, there is an air of positivism blowing in Kashmir. The government has a zero-tolerance against militancy and the security situation has improved significantly in the Union Territory (UT). Notably, there has been substantial decline in militant attacks - from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021.

2 terrorists killed in encounter at Jammu and Kashmir 's Kulgam

"The killed two categorised Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists have been identified as Mohammad Shafi Ganie of Batpora, Kulgam, and Mohammad Asif Wani alias Yawar of Takia Gopalpora, Kulgam. Two AK-47 rifles, ammunition recovered," Jammu and Kashmir Police quoting Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir), Vijay Kumar tweeted.
Delhi Liquor Scam: CBI makes first arrest, nabs businessman Vijay Nair

Sources told IANS that Vijay Nair was arrested from Delhi and now the CBI will seek his custodial remand. Nair, the former CEO of Only Much Louder, an entertainment and event management firm, and one of the prime suspects in the liquor scam, had gone to London. He returned to join the probe and was placed under arrest.
