Defence Ministry inks Rs 1,700 cr deal for surface-to-surface BrahMos missile

"Providing further impetus to Aatmanirbharta in defence production, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract today with BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd (BAPL) for acquisition of additional dual-role capable surface to curface BrahMos missiles at an overall approximate cost of Rs 1,700 crore under Buy-Indian Category," the ministry said in a statement. The induction of these dual-role capable missiles is supposed to significantly enhance the operational capability of Indian Navy.
How PFI spread its wing across the country

An official said that the agency had learnt that the PFI was indulging in terror funding besides imparting training to the youth in order to radicalise them. "We have seized incriminating documents, digital devices, cash to the tune of Rs 10 lakh along with weapons. We have learnt that camps were organised where conspiracies were hatched to carry out terror-related activities in the country," said a source.
Monsoon likely to withdraw from some areas between Sep 29-Oct 5: IMD

According to the IMD, conditions are likely to become favourable for the withdrawal of monsoon from the next week. "Due to trough/ cyclonic circulation over central and peninsular India, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and isolated thunderstorm/ lightning likely over central and peninsular India during most days between September 29 - October 5," the IMD said.
'PFI raids were planned in two high-level meetings of MHA'

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla were also present in that meeting. Officials of all the agencies concerned were asked to prepare a report with evidence against the PFI. In the meeting, instructions were given to take action against the people associated with PFI. Thereafter, when all the central agencies completed the preparations, a meeting of the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the officers of the investigating agencies was held on September 19.
PM Modi to visit Japan to attend Shinzo Abe's funeral

India logs 5,443 new Covid-19 cases, 26 deaths

The new fatalities increased the nationwide death toll to 5,28,429. The active caseload at 46,342 accounts for 0.10 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 5,291 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,39,78,271. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.71 per cent.
NIA raids SDPI, PFI linked places in Karnataka; 60 detained amid protest

Sources confirmed that the sleuths of NIA also raided an apartment in the Richmond Town in Bengaluru. More details are yet to emerge in this matter. The raids have also been conducted in Sirsi and Koppal cities of Karnataka. Sources said that NIA has raided 12 locations and arrested two persons. The raids are being conducted in the backdrop of the murder of BJP Yuva Morcha activist Praveen Kumar Nettare near Mangaluru recently.
