The government of Jammu and Kashmir, in reaction to the horrific terror attack on tourists in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, has ordered the shutdown of 48 tourist destinations across the Valley.
The recent attack killed 25 people, including a Nepali national and a local. Terrorists attacked Hindu men and this caused national outrage.
After the attack, tourist traffic to Kashmir has suffered significantly, with passenger flow into Srinagar airport dropping drastically. As a precautionary action, the government has shut down 48 of the Valley's 87 tourist spots. Some of these off-limits spots are famous such as Yousmarg, Tousmaidan, Doodpathri, Aharbal, Wular/Watlab, Sinthan Top, and others. The rest of the places have been given additional security to guarantee the security of tourists.
Even though the shutdown has been carried out temporarily, the move indicates the security concerns persisting after the terror strike. In response to the killings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to identify the terrorists and their backers and severely punish them.
The security forces have already responded by setting the houses of the active militants such as Adil Hussain Thoker and Asif Sheikh on fire, who are accused of carrying out the attack. Apart from this, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly brought a unanimous resolution criticizing the attack as a "heinous, barbaric, and inhumane" one.
The resolution emphasized that the attack was weakening the spirit of Kashmiriyat and the principles of unification, peace, and harmony.
The gathering was united with the victims' families and adopted condolences, and it presented a united front against terrorism and a firm resolve for peace and justice in the region.
