The Union Cabinet will have its first meeting since the attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, when 26 were killed, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
The meeting, scheduled to take off at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, will be chaired by Economic Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
There was no meeting of the Cabinet last week, and only the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met on April 23, unequivocally condemning the terrorist attack. After the CCS meeting, India took a number of firm steps, including downgrading diplomatic relations with Pakistan.
India's measures comprised the removal of Pakistani military attaches, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty that has been in existence for more than six decades, and the instant closure of the Attari land-transit post, in retaliation for the cross-border links related to the Pahalgam attack.
