Trump Defends Netanyahu, Denounces Trial as 'Witch Hunt' and Urges Dropping of Charges

In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump was in shock that Netanyahu is still being prosecuted after having led what he called one of Israel's greatest military victories — the recent attacks against Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump has come out strongly in support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling for the immediate dismissal of the ongoing legal proceedings against him or the issuance of a pardon. Trump described the charges as politically motivated and baseless.

Commending Netanyahu's wartime leadership, Trump tweeted, "I was shocked to hear that the State of Israel, which has just had one of its greatest moments in history and is led very strongly by Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing its ridiculous Witch Hunt against their great wartime Prime Minister!"

He also lavished praise on Netanyahu's determination while waging war with Iran, dubbing him a "warrior" and noting their common experiences. "Bibi and I just went through hell together, battling a very hard and smart longtime Israeli adversary, Iran, and Bibi could not have been better, sharper, or stronger in his affection for the amazing holy land. Anybody else would have endured losses, humiliation, and disorder! Bibi Netanyahu was a fighter, like maybe no other fighter in the history of Israel," Trump continued.

Trump asserted Netanyahu's latest military initiative had nullified the biggest nuclear threat from Iran, stating, "The outcome was something that nobody thought was possible, a total elimination of potentially one of the largest and most powerful Nuclear Weapons anywhere in the World, and it was going to happen, soon!

He also criticized Israel's judicial system, labeling Netanyahu's trial as political and unfair. Calling it a "horror show," Trump labeled the charges as overstated and minor.

I just found out that Bibi has been called to Court on Monday to continue with this long-standing politically charged case, 'regarding cigars, a bugs bunny doll, and many other biased allegations' in a bid to do him tremendous harm," Trump declared.

He went on, "A witch hunt like this, for a man who has given so much, is unimaginable to me.

Trump called for Netanyahu's acquittal, stating, "He deserves a lot better than this, and so does the State of Israel. Bibi Netanyahu's trial should be stopped right now, or a pardon should be issued to a great hero who has done so much for the State."

Confirming the close U.S.-Israel relationship under his tenure, Trump highlighted his personal relationship with Netanyahu and hinted at ongoing assistance from the U.S.

Maybe there is no one whom I know that could have cooperated better with the President of the United States, with me, than Bibi Netanyahu. It was the United States of America that rescued Israel, and now it's going to be the United States of America that rescues Bibi Netanyahu," he stated.

Netanyahu, in office longer than any Israeli Prime Minister, has repeatedly dismissed the corruption allegations made against him as the result of an unequal judicial system and adversarial media bent on bringing him down. The allegations range from taking luxury gifts like cigars and champagne to offering regulatory favors in exchange for flattering coverage.
