Three Palestinian Students Shot Near US University Campus

Reports emerged of a distressing incident near the University of Vermont in Burlington, where three young Palestinian students—Hisham Awartani, Kinnan Abdel Hamid, and Tahseen Ahmed—were reportedly shot as they made their way to a family dinner on Saturday evening.

These students, enrolled in various universities across the US, including Brown University, became victims of an attack near the campus area. Husam Zomlot, Head of the Palestinian Mission to the UK, highlighted this tragic event, indicating that the young men were targeted, seemingly for wearing the traditional Palestinian keffiyeh.

In a poignant statement, Zomlot emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, "Their crime? Wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh. They are critically injured." He also drew attention to a similar hate-driven incident that occurred six weeks prior, where a 6-year-old Palestinian child was subjected to a hate crime, suffering 26 stab wounds in Illinois. Zomlot underscored the urgent need for safeguarding Palestinians worldwide from such targeted violence, emphasizing the necessity to halt these hate crimes.

At present, the motive behind this attack remains undisclosed, leaving an unsettling air of uncertainty around the circumstances that led to this disturbing event.
