It has called for an urgent stay in place for students and faculty while a group of pro-Palestinian protesters have taken over the university's student services building. Protest by activists who 'have been holding unauthorized protests on lower floors and barricaded the premises, are the reason behind this step', the university SPO said Erik Frost Hollins.
President Berenecea Johnson Eanes of Cal State LA-who took office earlier this year-is presently barricaded in her eighth-floor office in the building, according to reports from local KABC television station.
Posts on social media suggest the protesters outside the building are bracing their barricades and are waiting for discussions with President Eanes.
This comes just two days after 25 pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Students have been present on Cal State LA in a "Gaza Solidarity Encampment" since May 1, demanding that the university and its affiliates sever all business ties with Israel.
Demonstrations in support of the Palestinians have snowballed on a number of campuses across California and elsewhere in the United States as fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza continues.
