The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, expressed concerns about the upcoming NATO exercises close to the Russian border and warned that the risks of military incidents were likely to increase. According to the reports of local media on Wednesday, Zakharova pointed out the dangers looming ahead of NATO's proposed exercises, which are to start Friday along the Russian-Finnish border in Finland.
Zakharova criticized NATO's step. Such a move, she claimed, turns a neutral country into an active player in military operations, although it used to be one of the chief participants of discussions regarding stability and security. She underlined Russia's readiness to respond to what she described as "aggressive actions of the collective West."
In the light of perceived threats to its national defense capabilities, Zakharova stated that Russia is ready to take all political and military-technical measures to ensure its security.
