India would do everything within its means to support peaceful solution to Ukraine conflict: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Zelenskyy

Modi spoke of India's conviction on a "human-centric" approach towards the resolution of the Ukraine war and underlined that New Delhi was always in favor of a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The Indian delegation to the peace conference will be led by Pavan Kapoor, Secretary West in the Ministry of External Affairs, reflecting how active New Delhi is in international efforts towards peace.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reassured him that India was committed to an end to the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, and peaceful resolution. During their talks on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy's Apulia, the two leaders discussed the upcoming Swiss peace conference for Ukraine. Zelenskyy thanked Modi for sending a high-level delegation to the summit and told him how important Indian participation was.

Modi later said the meeting with Zelenskyy was "very productive," and India, after making a position on deepening the bilateral ties with Ukraine, held that the way forward in inter-state relations lay through dialogue and diplomacy, which alone could bring to an end the ongoing hostilities, like it has been the Indian position on conflict resolution in a peaceful manner.

 "Had a very productive meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. India is eager to further cement bilateral relations with Ukraine," Modi said on 'X'.

 "Regarding the ongoing hostilities, reiterated that India believes in a human-centric approach and believes that the way to peace is through dialogue and diplomacy," he said.

According to the ministry of external affairs, the two leaders exchanged views on the prevailing situation in Ukraine while also talking about the agenda of the upcoming Peace Summit, slated to be held in Switzerland. Modi thanked Zelenskyy for his good wishes while speaking about bilateral relations and trade in the context of the Black Sea export corridor.

"The prime minister conveyed that India continues to encourage peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, and reiterated that India would continue to do everything within its means to support a peaceful solution," it said.

"We discussed the development of bilateral relations and trade, in particular in the context of the Black Sea export corridor functioning," Zelenskyy said ion 'X'.

"We explored the possibility of exchanging experience in the use of new technologies in agriculture," he said.

"We also talked about the Global Peace Summit and issues on its agenda. I thank Prime Minister Modi for sending a high-level delegation to the Summit.," the Ukranian president said.

He also spoke of the prospects for cooperation in agriculture technology and on the Black Sea transport corridor during the meetings, thanking India for its continued support, among them the upcoming high-level delegation to attend the Global Peace Summit. He stressed the agenda on the summit.

India will join the global leaders in Switzerland on June 15 and 16 to chalk out plans to bring happiness to Ukraine at the senior diplomatic level. " Modi and Zelenskyy had reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine", said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra were part of Modi's delegation, in what is seen as very high-level engagement with Ukraine. Zelenskyy apprised Modi of all aspects of the war, and flagged international cooperation in securing peaceful resolution to the crisis.

The meeting between the two leaders comes ahead of the Swiss Peace Summit, a meeting in which India will participate at an appropriate level. Switzerland has invited Prime Minister Modi as its guest to the summit as part of international efforts to seek a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
