The Prime Minister will visit the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 6 and 7. After the summit, he will embark on a historic visit to Brasilia—the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Brazilian capital in close to six decades. During the visit, PM Modi will likely meet with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and engage with other world leaders informally.

Brazil forms the fourth stop on PM Modi’s five-nation diplomatic tour. Just before arriving, he was in Trinidad & Tobago, where he addressed the Joint Assembly of Parliament and reinforced India’s “Global South first” approach.

Earlier during the tour, the Prime Minister had visited Ghana. There, he held deep discussions with President John Dramani Mahama and was conferred the nation's highest civilian honor—The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana. A number of significant bilateral agreements were also signed in order to enhance mutual cooperation.
