Australian Hindus Advocate for Bangladeshi Hindu Rights, Call for International Response

Hundreds of people gathered at the Treasury Gardens in Melbourne, close to the Parliament House of Victoria, and took part in a rally to express their views against persecution targeting Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

Cities across Australia witnessed the Hindu community's rallies, demanding the world's attention and action on the continued attacks against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. Major cities like Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane have participated in this event, and everybody—from small children to elderly people—is present. Hundreds of people gathered at the Treasury Gardens in Melbourne, close to the Parliament House of Victoria, and took part in a rally to express their views against persecution targeting Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. According to a statement on X by the 'Hindus of Australia', despite the inclement weather, the Melbourne rally expressed deep solidarity with Bangladeshi Hindus. The Sydney rally took a similar message to that in the one in Brisbane on Friday that specifically outlined the dangers facing the Hindu community residing in Bangladesh. 'Hindus of Australia' on X praised the bravery of those in attendance who put themselves and their families overseas at risk by attending the event. The Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad had earlier released an 'open letter' addressed to the Chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, expressing "deep anguish and concern" over the "unprecedented violence" committed on minorities by one community. The letter said the communal violence that broke out after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka has created "widespread fear, anxiety, and uncertainty" in the minds of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. It has brought out that thousands of Hindu families have been displaced and hundreds of temples have been attacked and destroyed, hundreds of women assaulted, and many murders taken place. Other minorities also have become victims during this period. The Bangladesh Hindu Jagran Mancha has held its own protests against the recent acts of vandalism, arson, loot, and violence on the Hindu community across the nation.
