CBI raids residences of Anubrata Mondal's CA, close associates

At around 10 a.m. after a marathon questioning for around two hours, the CBI sleuths also detained Bishwajyoti Bandopadhyay, the councillor of Ward Number 19 of Bolpur Municipality. The CBI also raided the residences of Manish Kothari, Mondal's personal chartered accountant, and Sudip Roy, the Bolpur-based local businessman.

Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been asked to be present at the ED's office at the Central Government Office (CGO) at Kolkata's Salt Lake area. The sources said that a special team of ED officers from the agency's headquarters in New Delhi will be arriving to Kolkata for Abhishek Banerjee's interrogation.

Anubrata Mondal's counsel, who moved the bail plea on medical grounds, argued that despite having him in custody for 10 days, the CBI sleuths could not produce any substantial proof regarding Mondal's involvement in the cattle smuggling scam. However, the CBI counsels vehemently opposed the bail plea and argued that if Mondal, being a highly influential person, is granted bail, there is every possibility that he might attempt to tamper with evidence or influence the witnesses.

Mamata Banerjee at a programme on Sunday gave a clear message that her sympathy and support towards the party's Birbhum district president continues even after his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths in the scam. On Monday after Mondal was informed about the chief minister's stand by his counsel, following which he heaved a sigh of relief and also informed the mediapersons through his counsel that he was confident that the "supreme leader would be beside him in this moment of crisis".
