At around 10 a.m. after a marathon questioning for around two hours, the CBI sleuths also detained Bishwajyoti Bandopadhyay, the councillor of Ward Number 19 of Bolpur Municipality. The CBI also raided the residences of Manish Kothari, Mondal's personal chartered accountant, and Sudip Roy, the Bolpur-based local businessman.

Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been asked to be present at the ED's office at the Central Government Office (CGO) at Kolkata's Salt Lake area. The sources said that a special team of ED officers from the agency's headquarters in New Delhi will be arriving to Kolkata for Abhishek Banerjee's interrogation.

Anubrata Mondal's counsel, who moved the bail plea on medical grounds, argued that despite having him in custody for 10 days, the CBI sleuths could not produce any substantial proof regarding Mondal's involvement in the cattle smuggling scam. However, the CBI counsels vehemently opposed the bail plea and argued that if Mondal, being a highly influential person, is granted bail, there is every possibility that he might attempt to tamper with evidence or influence the witnesses.

On Monday after Mondal was informed about the chief minister's stand by his counsel, following which he heaved a sigh of relief and also informed the mediapersons through his counsel that he was confident that the "supreme leader would be beside him in this moment of crisis".

Admission of crime was getting louder with first removal of Partha Chaterjee and then Adhikari from West Bengal cabinet, the BJP co-incharge Amit Malviya said. Roy was referring to a comment Chatterjee made just a day after being stripped off his ministerial and party portfolios that he was victim of conspiracies. Although there were rumours that Roy might get a ministerial berth during Wednesday's cabinet reshuffle because of his clean image and vast experience as a legislator, his name did not figure among the new faces who were inducted as ministers.
