As Sitharaman was replying to the discussion on the budget in Lok Sabha, Bandyopadhyay, who is the leader of Trinamool Congress in the Lower House, stood up and sought time from Speaker Om Birla to speak on the issue of pending GST compensation. Bandyopadhyay kept standing, seeking permission to intervene even as the finance minister said that she had a lot to say about West Bengal.

However, Roy made the remarks without taking the name of Adani group. The Trinamool MP also demanded that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman should ask market regulator SEBI to inquire into the fallen shares of this "certain" company. Roy raked up the issue while participating in the discussions on the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha.

A day after BJP legislator from Alipurduar Suman Kanjilal joined the state's ruling party, the BJP's central leadership is understood to have sought a detailed report from the state leadership on this count. Party insiders said that at a time when the central leadership of the party is trying all possible ways to reorganise the organisational structure of the party in the state, Kanjilal's shift to the Trinamool has come as a major jolt.

On Sunday afternoon, BJP legislator from Alipurduar constituency in Alipurduar district Suman Kanjilal reached the office of Trinamool's national General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee in south Kolkata and joined the ruling party. Banerjee himself handed over the party flag to Kanjilal - the sixth BJP legislator and the third from north Bengal to join Trinamool after the 2021 assembly elections.

The ED claims that Gokhale allegedly prepared a fake electronic document in the name of an institution, "OurDemocracy.in," and used a private company named GiantTreeTech Private Limited to collect funding from the public. Gokhale allegedly then used these funds for personal expenses. Gokhale was arrested and sent to ED custody till January 31.

Incidentally, her comments coincide with the timing on the hearing of two petitions at the Calcutta High Court over the twin incidents of the recent ruckus in front of the court of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha by a section of the lawyers close to Trinamool Congress and recovery of slanderous posters from in front of the residence of Justice Mantha.

They chose Tripura as their target as the state has a large number of Bengali-speaking people and also, politically, Tripura and Bengal have many similar characteristics with both the states witnessing a very long Left rule. This was not the first time that Trinamool eyed Tripura. Earlier, they also fought elections here, but after winning Bengal for the third time, party leader Abhishek Banerjee was desperate to have a good presence in Tripura as well.

Calcutta High Court's division bench of Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta rejected the bail plea on grounds that investigation by the central agency in the cattle smuggling case has reached a crucial stage and hence it will not be justified to grant him bail at this juncture.

That difference became even more blatant in the 57th anniversary celebration programme of the party organ in Bengali, Ganashakti, here on Tuesday evening. Delivering his address on the occasion, former party leader Prakash Karat, known to be representing the hardliners, did not even utter a single word about the current Trinamool Congress-led state government or Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
