Petrol prices remain steady ahead of Budget day

In the national capital, petrol was priced at Rs 86.30 per litre. In Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, petrol was sold for Rs 92.86, Rs 88.82 and Rs 87.69 per litre. Diesel prices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata remained unchanged at Rs 76.48, Rs 83.30, Rs 81.71 and Rs 80.08 per litre, respectively.

Accordingly, the last time petrol prices had crossed the Rs 80 per litre mark was in October 2018, when Brent crude had surged to $80.5 per barrel. In contrast, the price has now touched an all-time high of Rs 85.2 per litre in New Delhi even though Brent has slid to $55 per barrel.

With the latest increase, petrol is available at a record high of Rs 86.05 a litre in Delhi and diesel at Rs 76.23 a litre. Fuel prices increased sharply elsewhere in the country as well, but the retail hike varied from state to state due to quantum of taxes levied on petroleum products there.

Accordingly, the pump price of petrol remained at Rs 85.70 a litre in Delhi while diesel prices in the capital was unchanged at Rs 75.88 a litre. Across the country as well the fuel prices maintained the same price line. So, petrol is priced at Rs 92.28 a litre in Mumbai, Rs 88.29 a litre in Chennai and Rs 87.11 a litre in Kolkata.

Although the pump prices of fuels were unchanged on Sunday, they have been elevated for long and have been touching new highs of late.

With this, petrol is now priced at Rs 85.70/litre in Delhi as against Rs 85.45 a litre previously. Similarly, in Mumbai petrol prices increased to Rs 92.28 a litre, a 24 paisa increase from Friday's price of Rs 92.04 a litre. In Chennai and Kolkata, petrol is now priced at Rs 88.29 and 87.11 a litre respectively, an increase of 22 and 24 paisa per litre from the previous day's.
Oil marketing companies keep petrol, diesel price rise under check on Thursday

Accordingly, petrol continues to be sold at Rs 85.20 a litre in Delhi while diesel prices also remained same at Rs 75.38 a litre. Across the country as well the pump price of petrol and diesel remained unchanged on Thursday. Petrol and diesel prices had risen sharply by 25 paise per litre each on Monday and Tuesday before the OMCs decided to give relief to consumers from frequent price rise.
Fuel prices unchanged on Wednesday after hitting record levels nationwide

The pump price of petrol and diesel has increased by Rs 1.49 and Rs 1.51 per litre respectively in January so far with OMCs deciding to break an earlier longer period of pause increasing the retail prices first time this year on January 6. The price had been raised on five different days since then.
