Domestic gas producers allowed to sell 10% output on exchanges

As per an office memorandum of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry, domestic gas producers who have been granted marketing and pricing freedom after recent changes in the policy, will now be permitted to sell 500 million standard cubic metre (MSCM) or 10 per cent of annual production from the contract area through exchanges authorised by downstream regulator PNGRB.

Along with Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta, Apollo Global Management, and Think Gas (promoted by I Squared Capital) are reportedly among parties who have submitted bids for the state-run energy major. Major energy giants including Reliance Industries, Saudi Aramco, the UAE's Adnoc, and the UK's BP, have not placed interest for the state-run oil major so far.

Speaking at the 61st SIAM Annual Convention, Petroleum & Natural Gas Secretary, Tarun Kapoor, said that more than 80 per cent of petrol currently sold in India is blended with 10 per cent ethanol (E10). Kapoor further said that the demand for petrol has gone up by 4-5 per cent from the pre-Covid levels. However, the consumption of diesel has slid, he pointed out.

Puri blamed the previous Congress government's decisions for the current increase in prices of petroleum products. Addressing a press conference at the BJP's Delhi unit office on the third day of 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra', Puri said, "We are sensitive towards it (prices of petroleum products) and are taking all the possible steps including blending of ethanol which the government will increase to 20 per cent.
No respite for petrol consumers, but diesel prices finally cut

The companies, however, kept petrol prices unchanged for the 32nd consecutive day as they wanted to wait and watch the global oil market for some more time before any revision. With the cut, diesel is now priced at Rs 89.67 while with no change petrol continues to be sold for Rs 101.84 per litre in Delhi. Across the country as well, diesel prices fell between 20-25 paise per litre while petrol remained at the same level.
Petrol demand above pre-Covid levels, diesel just a fraction behind

While sales of petrol has already crossed pre-Covid levels more than a month ago, diesel sales has begun inching up and is just 8 per cent short of touching pre-Covid levels as of August 15. State-owned fuel retailers have sold 0.94 million tonnes (mt) of petrol between August 1-15, 2021. This is 9.4 per cent increase over dales seen in same period of previous year and 3.7 per cent above 0.95 mt sales in first half of August, 2019.
