Meta brings Venues app to main social VR platform Horizon Worlds
Horizon Worlds is a social VR experience where you can discover new places with friends, build unique worlds of your own, and form teams to compete in action-packed games. From June 6, people will be able to catch their favourite marquee shows -- from live sporting events to concerts from today's hit artists and beyond -- from within Horizon Worlds.
Meta to pay creators up to $4K for original content in Facebook Reels
The company is introducing "Challenges" on Facebook, a new incentive that helps creators in the Reels Play bonus programme. Meta said it is adjusting how payouts are calculated, aimed at rewarding creators across a range of audience sizes who are making "high-quality original content that resonates with people". Facebook's 'Challenges' is a new way to go through a series of bonuses to reach a maximum payout.

The growing use of immersive technologies such as augmented and virtual reality will spur consumer-facing companies, such as those in retail, consumer goods and travel, to increase investment in new capabilities and experiences to blend physical and virtual worlds, or risk being left behind, according to a global survey from Accenture.

According to The Information, the aggressive timeline reflects Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's desire to advance his metaverse dream by getting more people to use VR devices. "Meta is planning to release Project Cambria, a high-end VR and mixed-reality headset it is billing as a device for the future of work, around September, according to a person familiar with the matter," the report said late on Monday.

Facebook changed its name to Meta in October 2021, reflecting CEO Mark Zukerberg's faith in a future of working, playing and studying in a virtual world. Shares have lost nearly half their value in 2022. Key metric Daily Active Users, which declined in the previous quarter for the first time, bounced back a bit from 1.93 to 1.96 billion.
Meta says experiencing good ad impression growth in India
In Q1 2022, Meta's family of social media properties delivered 15% more ad impressions. However, the average price for each of those ads was down 8% year-over-year. David Wehner, Chief Financial Officer of Meta, said during the earnings call that the Asia-Pacific region benefited from strong demand in products like Click-to-Messaging ads.

According to Pratiti Raychoudhury, Vice President, Head of Research, Meta, research shows that mainstream media plays a bigger role disseminating disinformation than popularly accepted. "Polarisation is decreasing in parts of the world where social media use is rising. More and more research also discredits the idea that social media algorithms create an echo chamber that causes polarisation and political upheavals," she countered.
Meta to stop people from sharing private residential info of other users
Reacting to a decision by Facebook Oversight Board, Meta agreed to remove the exception from its policy. "As the board notes in this recommendation, removing the exception for 'publicly available' private residential information may limit the availability of this information on Facebook and Instagram when it is still publicly available elsewhere," the company said.
Facebook drops flagship F8 developer conference this year
Meta will instead organise its "inaugural business messaging event", called Conversations, on May 19. "Similar to years past, we are taking a brief break in programming and will not hold F8 in 2022 while we gear up on new initiatives that are all tailored towards the next chapter of the internet, and the next chapter of our company too: building the metaverse," Meta said in a blog post late on Wednesday.
Meta takes down 23.6 mn pieces of bad content in India on FB, Instagram
Between February 1-28, Meta received 478 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism, and responded to 100 per cent of these reports. Of these reports, the social network provided tools for users to resolve their issues in 402 cases. These include pre-established channels to report content for specific violations, self-remediation flows where they can download their data, avenues to address account hacked issues etc.
