Not all visitors to this sunshine state go to the beach first but a bulk of them are actually temple goers. In fact, even when for the majority of tourists visiting Goa, the equation is simple: 'Goa = Sun, Sand & Sea', over a dozen major temples and several smaller ones attract regular and annual crowds that have a sizable contribution to Goa's economy.

Officially, India intervened militarily in Goa on December 11, 1961, after it had become evident that the economic blockade that had been in force against the colony since 1955 had not worked, and the Portuguese administration was getting increasingly repressive.The spark, though, was provided in November 1961, when the Portuguese contingent based at Anjadip island, off the coast of Canacona, fired at the Indian merchant ship Sabarmati in a display of its maritime supremacy in the region.

"We are very clear that we do not want Goa to be a coal hub, when it does not benefit Goa to be a coal hub.

Speaking to mediapersons during an informal interaction here, Banerjee also said that while she loved Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, it would be wrong to assume that only the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is allowed easy passage to contest in other Indian states.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 18 will congratulate them on 100 per cent completion of the first vaccination dose, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday. Sawant also said that the detailed programme about the event would be issued on Thursday. He tweeted congratulations to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and health workers in the state.

Goa Advocate General Devidas Pangam requested the court to adjourn the matter, stating that the state government had proposed to move an application to the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court seeking that the hearing may be conducted via "virtual mode".

"The problem is, if one has to post a policeman for every person, every girl, how many police will we require? This is what it is. Government is not running away from responsibility. Government is protecting. Government is there with the people," Gaude told reporters on the sidelines of the ongoing Monsoon Session of the state Legislative Assembly.

The appeal also said that the order deserves setting aside of the order of acquittal and directing a retrial, because it ignores "evidence of the neutral and expert witness and choosing to accept the belated and uncorroborated defence" by the respondents.
