Maharashtra opts for 'weekend lockdown', stringent Covid norms
The decision was taken at an emergency Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, after he held detailed discussions with all stakeholders over this weekend.The weekend curfew would commence on Fridays at 8 p.m. and end at 7 a.m. on Mondays.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who has warned of stringent norms to be announced shortly, reviewed the situation again on Saturday amid speculation of tighter measures likely to be announced on Sunday. The state recorded its highest 49,447, 47,827 new infections, up from the previous high of 47,827 new cases registered on April 2, and the tally increased from 29,04,076 on Friday to 29,53,523 on Saturday.

Speaking with IANS, Mishra said the UK variant has contributed to the surge in cases in Punjab. "Somebody had travelled from the UK to Punjab, possibly in a group, and then people from this group would have gone to several places in Punjab, which has contributed to the surge," said Mishra.

India overtakes US in daily Covid cases
India recorded 81,466 new Coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. About 77,718 new cases were reported in the US on April 1. India has been witnessing a spike in cases since the last three weeks. India recorded its first Coronavirus case on January 30 last year and since then, a total of 1,23,03,131 people have been infected. In the US, the first case was found on January 22 and has now surged to 30,538,427, respectively.
No plan of another lockdown in Delhi, says Kejriwal
Addressing a digital press conference after chairing an emergency meeting called in view of the surging cases, he said: "This time, Covid-19 cases are increasing faster than last time but the Delhi government has so far not thought about imposing a lockdown again in the city. If needed in the future, I would talk to the people and will then take any decision on it."
ICU beds for Covid-19 being increased in hospitals: Arvind Kejriwal
In a tweet, he said that in view of the Covid situation developing in the city, the number of normal and ICU beds reserved for Covid patients "is being increased in a few hospitals" and this will "improve bed availability". Kejriwal said that his government was keeping a close watch on the situation and would take all steps necessary. Assuring people that "there is nothing to worry about", he, however, asked to take all precautions.
Covid-19 Update: At 56,211, India records nearly 12K less new cases in a day
On Monday, the country recorded 68,020 cases, the highest single-day spike in daily new cases since October 11, last year. Lower count of cases are a result of low testing. According to the ICMR, 24,26,50,025 samples have been tested up to March 28 with 7,85,864 samples being tested on Monday.
