Coal imports rose 30% to 162 million tonnes in 2022-23: Report

The report further said that coking coal imports also rose by 5.44 per cent to 54.46 million tonnes in 2022-23 as against 51.65 million tonnes in 2021-22. The publication went on to add that in March, non-coking coal imports were at 13.88 million tonnes as against 12.61 million tonnes during corresponding period of last year.
Coal Ministry aims to complete 67 first mile projects by 2027

Out of the 67 FMC projects, Coal India Ltd (CIL) will take up 59, Singareni Collieries Company Ltd will undertake five while the remaining three will be taken up by Neyveli Lignite Company, the sources said. In order to eliminate road transportation of coal in mines, the ministry has developed a plan to improve the mechanised coal transportation and loading system under FMC projects.
India's coal production rises 15% to 893 mn tonnes in 2022-23

Government aims to enhance production to 1,012 million tonnes in the current fiscal. In the last five years, the output of Coal India Limited (CIL) has increased by 703.21 million tonnes as compared to 606.89 million tonnes in 2018-2019 with a growth of 15.9 per cent, official data said.
NTPC registers 148% coal production growth in April at 2.75 MMT

NTPC recorded 2.75 million metric tonnes (MMT) of coal production during April 2023 as compared to 1.11 MMT recorded during the year-ago period. India's largest power producer also achieved highest-ever monthly coal despatch of 2.95 MMT in April 2023, an increase of 140 per cent on coal despatch volumes of 1.23 MMT achieved during the year ago period.
India's coal production rises 8.6% to 73 mn tonnes in April 2023

The government has paved the way for releasing additional coal in the market through greater utilisation of mining capacities of captive and private blocks, which has led to increase in dry fuel production by 17.52 per cent to 9.88 million tonnes in April 2023, as compared to 8.41 million tonnes recorded during the corresponding period of last year.
Government says steps will be taken to expedite domestic coal production

According to the data released by the Commerce Ministry, only the crude oil production declined by 4.9 per cent in February 2023 over February 2022. Its cumulative index declined by 1.6 per cent during April to February period of 2022-23 over the corresponding period of last year.

Out of the 106 coal mines, 32 are new coal mines and 69 mines are being rolled over from earlier tranches. Additionally, five coal mines under the second attempt of sixth tranche are also being launched where single bids were received in the first attempt.
Power sector dues to coal companies over Rs 20,000 crore

According to official sources, outstanding dues payable by power sector for dry fuel sales towards Coal India Ltd (CIL) and the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), amounts to Rs 16,629.41 crore and Rs 3,713 crore, respectively, as on February 28, 2023.
