Indonesia Open: Satwiksairaj/Chirag Shetty seal maiden entry into final of BWF Super 1000 event

Satwik and Chirag, who are ranked sixth in the World but are seeded seventh here, defeated South Korea's Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae in three hard-fought games 17-21, 21-19, 21-18 in the first semifinal at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace here on Saturday.

The duo of Satwik and Chirag registered an easy 21-13, 21-13 victory over the Indonesians in 41 minutes. Satwik and Chirag will play the winner of the quarterfinal between Korean duo of Min Hyuk Kang and Seung Jae Seo and Indonesia's Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin.

Srikanth defeated compatriot Lakshya Sen in straight games, while Prannoy, seeded seventh here, got the better of NG Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong, 21-18, 21-16 in 43 minutes. Former World Champion Sindhu, who won a silver medal in the Rio Olympics in 2016 and a bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, went down 18-21, 16-21 in the 29-minute encounter.

Lakshya registered a 21-17, 21-13 win over world no 11 Malaysian in the round of 32. On the other hand, former world No. 1 Srikanth beat Chinese shuttler Lu Guang Zu 21-13, 21-19 in his opening round match. The 21-year old Sen and Lee engaged in a close battle in the first game. With the scores tied 17-all, the Indian won four consecutive points to take the lead in the match.

Earlier in the day, young singles' player Priyanshu Rajawat and the doubles duo of M.R. Arjun and Dhruv Kapila crashed out after their respective second round losses.

Coming into the tournament as the defending champion, Sindhu lost 21-18, 19-21,17-21 to the reigning world champion and No. 1 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the women's singles opening round BWF Super 750 event. This was Sindhu's tenth loss against Yamaguchi but she still leads the head-to-head tally against the Japanese 14-10.
