'Mountains to climb': Air India CEO-designate Wilson on new role

Wilson is currently the CEO of Singapore Airlines' subsidiary Scoot Air. Singapore Airlines (SIA) is a joint venture partner of Tata Group in full-service carrier Vistara. "This afternoon I informed the executive team and your union leaders of my resignation from Scoot and the SIA Group," he said to the employees to Scoot through a communique, which reportedly was his farewell letter.

The Tatas took over Rs 15,300 crore of debt where they have since renegotiated terms, and refinanced it by bringing in new lenders. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia confirmed this in a conversation with IANS Editor in Chief Sandeep Bamzai on Wednesday. Scindia said, "The Tatas paid Rs 2,700 crore cash and took over Rs 15,300 crore of the airline's debt. We have settled the balance amount of Rs 47,000 crore with all the lenders. The deal is now complete and I believe this is a very big achievement."
Qantas to acquire aviation service company in $444mn deal

The deal would see Qantas purchase a remaining 80 percent stake in the company after buying 20 per cent at the beginning of 2019, reports Xinhua news agency. The deal would see Qantas acquire Alliance's fleet of around 70 Fokker jet aircraft, each with a seating capacity of 100. The Fokker is well suited to small-scale charters, such as flying workers out to Australia's remote mining sites.
India's daily domestic air passenger traffic crosses 4 lakh mark

Jet fuel prices hiked, air fares to rise

Accordingly, in the national capital, the price of jet fuel was raised to Rs 1,12,924.83 per kilolitre (kl) from Rs 1,10,666.29 per kl. In the other metro cities of Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, the price was increased to Rs 1,17,353.71, Rs 1,11,690.61 and Rs 1,16,583.71 per kiloliter, respectively. "ATF prices have increased by around 50 % since the start of the year, major reason being the increase in crude prices led by the the Russia-Ukraine tensions," said Bhanu Patni.
Indian airports expected to become profitable in FY23

India allows over 3,200 international flights per week from Sunday

The Summer Schedule 2022 is effective from March 27, 2022 till October 29, 2022. "A total of 1,466 departures per week have been approved to 43 destinations in 27 countries," the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said in a statement. As per the approved schedule, IndiGo will operate 505 departures per week, followed by Air India at 361, Air India Express 340, SpiceJet at 130, GoAir (GoFirst now) at 74 and Vistara at 56.
Bengaluru airport named 'Best Airport' at Wings India Awards 2022

Akasa Air plans to launch first flight in June

India's newest budget airline Akasa Air plans to launch its first commercial flight in June. The airline's chief executive Vijay Dube said on Friday that they are working with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to get the required clearances for commencing the air operations.
