Indian aviation under-penetrated compared to China, near peers like Indonesia: Report
The report on 'Civil Aviation: The Roadmap for Robust Growth Over Next Decade' observed that this is largely a function of relatively lower income levels compared to China and Indonesia. However, the Indian market harbours immense potential, considering rising income levels and its vast population, it said. It said that the Chinese aviation market grew four times between 2007 and 2022 as income levels rose and the Indian market is poised for a similarly impressive growth.
Qantas issues apology, refunds to millions of customers amid disruptions
"On behalf of the national carrier, I want to apologise and assure you that we're working hard to get back to our best," Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said statement. Joyce has been under intense scrutiny as the airline has suffered severe worker shortages, mass cancellations and delays of flights, and misdirected luggage, reports Xinhua news agency.
Number of domestic air passengers in July dips to 97.05 lakh
According to the DGCA data, the number of passengers carried by domestic airlines during the January-July 2022 period were 669.54 lakh as against 393.44 lakhs during the corresponding period of in 2021, thereby registering an annual growth of 70.18 per cent and monthly growth of 93.82 per cent. The passenger load factor or occupancy of airlines remained in the range of 75 per cent to 85 per cent in July.

"Headwinds caused by depreciating rupee and higher fuel prices led to a net loss of Rs 10,643 million for the quarter ended June 2022. Excluding foreign currency loss of Rs 14,246 million, net profit for the quarter aggregated to Rs 3,603 million," the airline said. For the quarter ended June 30, 2022 compared to the same period last year, the airline reported that passenger numbers increased by 221.9 per cent, yield improved by 50.3 per cent and load factor improved by 20.9 points.
Air India to allow its pilots to fly till 65 years
Considering future expansion plans for our fleet, it is imperative to meet our workforce requirement for pilots. DGCA ((Directorate General of Civil Aviation) allows pilots to fly till the age of 65 years, compared to Air India retirement age of 58 years. Allowing pilots to fly till the age of 65 is a practice followed by most airlines in the industry, said the airline's internal document issued on July 29.
Nearly 350 aircraft inspected in last few months, says Aviation Ministry
"The spot checks raised findings which were corrected by the airlines. Another series of spot checks were carried out on all operating aircraft of Spicejet from July 9 to 13, wherein 53 spot checks were carried out on 48 aircraft which did not raise any significant finding or safety violations," said the Ministry of civil Aviation in a written reply in the House.
Load factor of SpiceJet on July 30, 31 was 81% and 82.4% respectively

On time performance of various airlines records decline in May, June
On time performance of Go First was 94.5 % during January 2022 which came down to 71.8 % in May and 76 % in June. Similarly, On time performance of Spicejet was 87.5 % in January and it reduced to 70.9 % in May and 79.4 % in June. Other airlines including Indigo, Alliance Air, Air Asia and a few others recorded similar trends during the last few months.
Grounded for three years, Jet Airways all set to soar under new management
Paving the way for the private carrier's revival, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted the revalidated Air Operator Certificate to the new owners, Jalan Kalrock Consortium (JKC), on May 20. The JKC fulfilled all the conditions laid down in the NCLT-approved resolution plan for the revival of the airline, founded in April 1992 and launched in 1993 by businessman Naresh Goyal, and shut after 27 years in April 2019.
