Spicejet reports net loss of Rs 789 crore in Q1FY2023

The airline's total revenue for the reported quarter was Rs 2,478 crore as against Rs 1,266 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. For the same comparative period, operating expenses were Rs 3,267 crore as against Rs 1,995 crore. On an EBITDA basis, loss was Rs 379 crore for the reported quarter as against a loss of Rs 244 crore for the quarter last year.
Virgin Atlantic, IndiGo announce new codeshare agreement

The codeshare partnership will mean customers booking a Virgin Atlantic ticket will be able to fly on the airline's flights from London's Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai and connect to and fro to seven additional cities in India. Later this year the agreement will be expanded to cover a total of 16 destinations throughout India, as well as connections onto Virgin Atlantic's extensive US network operated via London Heathrow. The agreement will allow Virgin Atlantic to sell seats to passengers connecting onto IndiGo flights.
Indian aviation under-penetrated compared to China, near peers like Indonesia: Report

The report on 'Civil Aviation: The Roadmap for Robust Growth Over Next Decade' observed that this is largely a function of relatively lower income levels compared to China and Indonesia. However, the Indian market harbours immense potential, considering rising income levels and its vast population, it said. It said that the Chinese aviation market grew four times between 2007 and 2022 as income levels rose and the Indian market is poised for a similarly impressive growth.
Qantas issues apology, refunds to millions of customers amid disruptions

Joyce has been under intense scrutiny as the airline has suffered severe worker shortages, mass cancellations and delays of flights, and misdirected luggage, reports Xinhua news agency.
Number of domestic air passengers in July dips to 97.05 lakh

According to the DGCA data, the number of passengers carried by domestic airlines during the January-July 2022 period were 669.54 lakh as against 393.44 lakhs during the corresponding period of in 2021, thereby registering an annual growth of 70.18 per cent and monthly growth of 93.82 per cent. The passenger load factor or occupancy of airlines remained in the range of 75 per cent to 85 per cent in July.

Indigo reports highest-ever quarterly revenue of Rs 130.2 bn

"Headwinds caused by depreciating rupee and higher fuel prices led to a net loss of Rs 10,643 million for the quarter ended June 2022. Excluding foreign currency loss of Rs 14,246 million, net profit for the quarter aggregated to Rs 3,603 million," the airline said. For the quarter ended June 30, 2022 compared to the same period last year, the airline reported that passenger numbers increased by 221.9 per cent, yield improved by 50.3 per cent and load factor improved by 20.9 points.
Air India to allow its pilots to fly till 65 years

Considering future expansion plans for our fleet, it is imperative to meet our workforce requirement for pilots. DGCA ((Directorate General of Civil Aviation) allows pilots to fly till the age of 65 years, compared to Air India retirement age of 58 years. Allowing pilots to fly till the age of 65 is a practice followed by most airlines in the industry, said the airline's internal document issued on July 29.
