Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a massive public rally in Karakat, Bihar on Friday, launched a severe attack on the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), alleging that they had held the state in a state of underdevelopment for years.
He claimed that it was only after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power that Bihar actually experienced developments.
PM Modi charged that the RJD and the Congress misruled the state for decades, denying citizens basic services but now pose as champions of social justice.
"Decades ago, individuals belonging to the Backward Classes and Dalits were denied simple facilities and social amenities such as toilets and drinking water, but that never troubled them. Now they are discussing public welfare simply because their presence has been threatened," PM Modi stated.
Referring to the work of the NDA government, the Prime Minister enumerated a number of measures taken to improve the lives of the poor and the marginalized, highlighting that these actions were overdue.
"NDA government constructed four crore pucca houses, achieved the goal of three crore Lakhpati didis, provided 12 crore tap water connections and ensured free medical care to all the elderly," PM Modi noted.
PM Modi highlighted that the NDA government has remained steadfast in providing the benefits of basic facilities to all segments of society.
We have given basic facilities of life to the poor. We are trying to give them those facilities to 100 per cent of the beneficiaries," he said.
Highlighting a contrast with previous governments, Modi referred to the last ages as an age of "jungle raj," in which citizens were deprived even of the most basic things.
There were no fundamental amenities — crores of people lived without toilet facilities, and there were no pucca houses for Dalits. People did not have bank accounts. They were compelled to leave the state," he stated.
He dared the Congress and RJD to tell him why Bihar was held back for so long years with them at the helm.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the government’s emphasis on local industries, particularly noting the positive impact on Bihar’s Makhana cultivation following its recognition with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
“Our endeavour is to bring every deprived and unprivileged family under the ambit of development, where they benefit from public welfare schemes,” PM Modi told the crowd.
