Supreme Court Rejects Manish Sisodia's Appeals for Bail in Liquor Policy Scandal

In a recent order published on its official website, the apex court stated, "After thorough examination of the curative petitions and associated documents, we find no grounds for consideration. Consequently, the curative petitions are dismissed."

The Supreme Court has rejected the curative appeals lodged by Manish Sisodia, a prominent figure in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi. These petitions aimed to challenge the dismissal of previous review pleas against a 2023 verdict that denied him bail regarding an alleged liquor policy scandal in the nation's capital.

In a recent order published on its official website, the apex court stated, "After thorough examination of the curative petitions and associated documents, we find no grounds for consideration. Consequently, the curative petitions are dismissed."

Sisodia has been detained for a year now, initially arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 9, 2023, following an earlier arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26 of the same year, both in connection with the aforementioned case.

Previously, in December of the preceding year, the Supreme Court declined to hold an oral hearing on Sisodia's review petition and instead dismissed it through internal circulation, affirming, "Upon careful review of the petitions and their supporting arguments, we find no basis for reconsideration of the judgment dated October 30, 2023. Hence, the review petitions stand dismissed."

On October 30, 2023, the apex court had refused bail to Sisodia amidst allegations of corruption and money laundering. While acknowledging lingering uncertainties, the court tentatively acknowledged the transfer of Rs 338 crore as established.

However, the court stipulated that Sisodia's trial must conclude within six to eight months, suggesting that if proceedings progressed sluggishly in the subsequent three months, he could reapply for bail.
