Congress national spokesperson Gourav Vallabh stirred headlines on Thursday as he made a significant move by joining the BJP shortly after tendering his resignation from the Congress party, citing a lack of clear direction as his primary reason.
Following suit, Anil Sharma, the former Bihar Congress president, also made a crossover to the BJP, with a formal ceremony held in Delhi, graced by the presence of national general secretary Vinod Tawde.
In a letter directed to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Gourav Vallabh expressed his disenchantment with the Congress party, describing it as 'lacking direction'. He outlined various factors leading to his departure, including the party's stance on crucial issues like the caste census, along with his discomfort with the propagation of 'anti-Sanatan' slogans.
"I find myself at odds with the current directionless trajectory of the Congress party. I cannot endorse the promotion of anti-Sanatana sentiments or the disparagement of the nation's wealth creators. Therefore, I tender my resignation from all positions and renounce my primary membership of the Congress party," wrote Gourav Vallabh in his resignation letter.
Renowned for his adept management of Mallikarjun Kharge's Congress presidential campaign, Vallabh emerged as a prominent voice in economic discourse. Despite his significant contributions, his political journey faced hurdles, notably his defeat in the 2023 Rajasthan assembly election from the Udaipur constituency, where the BJP candidate secured a substantial victory margin of over 32,000 votes.
Vallabh's foray into electoral politics began in 2019 when he contested the Jamshedpur East seat in Jharkhand. Although he garnered over 18,000 votes, he secured the third position behind the then-incumbent chief minister Raghubar Das and Saryu Roy.
