BJP MP Nishikant Dubey launched a stinging attack on the Congress party Sunday, taking its comments on the Centre regarding the reported invitation of Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir to a US military parade. Dubey accused the Opposition party of behaving like a "spokesperson" for Pakistan.
The BJP stalwart accused Congress of speaking the voice of an oppositional state for political gain. In a conversation with IANS, Dubey stated that senior Congress leaders like Jairam Ramesh had strongly protested the reported US invitation of Pakistan's army chief to the June 14 parade as a huge diplomatic blunder for India.
"But today, the US has refused to send any invitation. It's a trend of the Congress party to mislead and misguide people on matters of national interest. They are playing the role of Pakistan's spokespersons," he stated.
Dubey alleged that in its outrage against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress party had gone so low as to hurting the country's interests by taking Pakistani stand instead of speaking about India's agenda.
There has to be an end to such politics that appeases and wants to gain the nation's enemies. Congress as the lead Opposition party has to realize its duty and turn a new leaf in its strategy," he added.
Rejecting Congress' claims that the Modi government uses military actions for political purposes, Dubey asserted that the BJP espouses nationalism and patriotism, contrary to what he called Congress' "appeasement and vote-bank politics.
He also accused Congress of appeasement of a particular religious group by repeatedly making assertions that, in his opinion, were reminiscent of Pakistani propaganda.
The BJP MP stressed that his party has always been steadfastly opposed to Pakistan and terrorism. Reminding of the past events, Dubey stated, "The country was injured and traumatized by several terror strikes during the UPA governments, like the 2008 Mumbai terror strikes, in which over 175 were killed and again the urban city being targeted in 2011, killing over 25. It was due to the Congress government's weak handling that Pakistan was emboldened and continued patronizing terror on our land.
Concluding his remarks, he urged Congress to reflect on its own flawed history rather than raising fingers at the BJP’s commitment to putting the nation first.
