BSP supremo Mayawati reinstates nephew Akash Anand as her political heir, party’s National Coordinator

Akash Anand faced flak for his intemperate language during the campaign, wherein he termed the Union government a "government of terrorists" and compared it with the Taliban in Afghanistan. This invited an FIR against him and other BSP members by the Sitapur Police.

BSP chief Mayawati has reinstated her nephew, Akash Anand, as the party's National Coordinator and again declared him her political successor. This comes after over a month since Mayawati had removed him from the key post amid the campaign of the Lok Sabha elections due to his controversial remarks and perceived immaturity.

The announcement to this effect was made in New Delhi in a meeting called by Mayawati to review BSP's poor show in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections where it drew a blank without winning any seat. Strategies for improving results in the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections were also discussed.
