PM Modi Highlights India-Japan Alliance's Role in Ensuring Indo-Pacific Peace and Stability

The Japanese ministers arrived in New Delhi Monday afternoon to meet at Hyderabad House on Tuesday evening. Just before she arrived, Kamikawa said India was of strategic significance in realizing "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" (FOIP). According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the meeting will discuss the strategic landscape to continue and strengthen an international order based on the rule of law, and further enhance security and defense cooperation.

PM Modi met the visiting Japanese Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, and Defence Minister Minoru Kihara on Monday to review progress in the bilateral defence and security relationship. Modi said that the India-Japan partnership was imperative in the pursuit of peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond. In an statement on X, he said that he was "delighted to meet the Japanese officials ahead of 3rd India-Japan 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Meeting" and expressed satisfaction over progress in their defense and security relations.

Before the 2+2 talks, Kamikawa is scheduled to meet with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to discuss ways to further bilateral cooperation in economic, development, and people-to-people exchanges apart from international issues.

During his visit last month to Tokyo for the Quad Foreign Ministers' meeting, Jaishankar said India-Japan relations are influenced at both regional and global levels with the "contemporary partnership" aimed at new capabilities, technologies, challenges, and stresses. Same day, Jaishankar and Kamikawa discussed Tokyo's view of New Delhi as key partner for collaboration and innovation through dialogue.
