Preliminary post-mortem reports on the female doctor from the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, who was tragically raped and murdered on August 9, have revealed she sustained 14 injuries. According to the report, all these injuries were inflicted before her death.
The report mentioned injuries on the head, both cheeks, lips, nose, right jaw, chin, neck, left arm, left shoulder, left knee, ankle and inside the genitalia. There was haemorrhage in the lungs, blood clots at several places and a thick, sticky liquid in the genitals.", the sources added. It signifies that she died because of manual strangulation combined with smothering, the nature of death being homicidal.
Medical evidence of forced penetration is also present in the report, which states that there was sexual assault. Blood samples and others have been sent for examination.
Medical experts have confirmed that the evidence points to the fact that there were multiple rapists and killers as the protesting medical students and junior doctors had been demanding, and not just one.
So far, a single person, a civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy, is in custody. The Kolkata Police had arrested him and later handed him over to the CBI.
The probe into the case has already been taken over by the CBI as per an order of the Calcutta High Court. Sources claimed that the CBI is working relentlessly to identify other suspects by interrogating several people, including Sandip Ghosh, the former and controversial principal of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital.
In the past few days, he has been continuously questioned by CBI at their Salt Lake office on the northern outskirts of Kolkata for 12 to 13 hours.
