PM Modi Extends Congratulations to Bangladesh's Sheikh Hasina on Election Victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on securing a historic fourth consecutive term in Sunday's general elections. In a letter sent on Monday, PM Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthening the enduring and people-centric partnership with Bangladesh.

Highlighting the deep and historic ties between the two nations, PM Modi emphasized the continuous deepening of their unshakeable partnership across various areas. He assured Bangladesh of India's unwavering support in their aspirations and growth, solidifying their status as close friends and trusted development partners.

The Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Pranay Kumar Verma, conveyed similar sentiments during his meeting with Prime Minister Hasina, extending congratulations on her re-election and the victory of the Awami League for a fourth consecutive term.

This support and well-wishes were echoed by envoys from various countries, including Russia, China, Bhutan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and India. During their visits to the newly-elected premier, they pledged their continued support to Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Hasina expressed gratitude for the support and cooperation offered by these countries, seeking their partnership in Bangladesh's journey towards development and prosperity.

The victory marked a significant milestone for Hasina and the Awami League, securing 223 seats in the 300-member Parliament. With her eighth term as a Member of Parliament, Hasina is set to become the longest-serving Prime Minister in Bangladesh since its independence.

Despite a relatively low turnout in the election, boycotted by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allies, Hasina's victory reaffirms her position as a pivotal figure in Bangladesh's political landscape.
