For the fourth consecutive day, Pakistan continued to violate the ceasefire at the Line of Control (LoC), raising tensions even further between the two countries.
On the night of 27-28 April 2025, the Pakistan Army had indulged in unprovoked small arms fire in the sectors in the areas on the other side of the Kupwara and Poonch districts. The Indian Army replied firmly and effectively, as per an official statement.
This came after a prior incident on 26-27 April 2025, when Pakistan Army positions initiated small arms fire across the LoC in the Rampur Sectors and Tutmari Gali. Indian forces responded with commensurate fire to offer a solid defense, the Indian Army reported.
The continued sparring is against the backdrop of increased tensions following the 22 April Pahalgam terrorist attack that resulted in 26 deaths. The security agencies have since intensified their efforts to apprehend the architects of the attack.
As part of the ongoing security operations, the residences of three other suspected terrorists were razed by Indian forces in South Kashmir, bringing the number of houses razed to nine since the terror attack. The residences of Adnan Shafi Dar (Zainapora, Shopian), Amir Nazir (Daramdora, Pulwama), and Jameel Ahmad (Naz Colony, Bandipora) were razed in these operations.
Retaliation for this mounting crisis was in the form of a series of measures by New Delhi, such as suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty and revoking visas. Pakistan retaliated by revoking the 1972 Shimla Agreement and restricting its air space to Indian flights.
The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, held out his hand in support of an iron-fisted response to terrorism and its perpetrators but also called for restraint not to alienate individuals who have stood up against the killing of innocent civilians.
On X, he said, "Since the Pahalgam terror attack, there has to be a big battle against terrorism and its reason. The Kashmiri people have come out in the open against terrorism and martyrdom of innocent citizens. They have done so voluntarily & spontaneously. It's time to use this support and not engage in any misplaced activity that isolates people. Punish the perpetrators, don't spare them, but don't make innocent citizens collateral damage."
