Pakistan Fires on J&K LoC for 11th Straight Day; Indian Troops Deliver Strong Retaliation

According to a Defence Ministry release, "On the night of 04-05 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked small arms firing on LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor in J&K." The Indian Army responded promptly and in proportion to these firings.

India-Pakistan tensions have also continued to escalate, with the Pakistan Army once more resorting to unprovoked small arms fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. It is the 11th consecutive day of such violations, with the Pakistan Army opening fire on multiple Indian positions along the LoC.

The Ministry also added that on the night of May 3-4, there was firing in the same areas, with the Indian troops giving a befitting response. The situation on the LoC has been highly sensitive since the fatal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, when 26 civilians were killed, of which 25 were tourists and one local. The attack, claimed by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists backed by Pakistan, has added more strain to the already strained relations between the two nations.

Since the Pahalgam killings, India has taken several significant steps against Pakistan. These included deportation of Pakistani citizens, closure of the Attari-Wagah border crossing point, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, closure of Indian airspace to Pakistani commercial flights, and suspension of all trade and cultural exchanges. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also stated that the perpetrators of the attack, including the terrorists and their handlers, would be "chased and hunted down to the ends of the earth."

The Indian government has granted military operational freedom to take revenge for the Pahalgam attack, and PM Modi convened a high-level meeting with senior officials such as the Defence Minister, National Security Advisor, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), and Army, Navy, and Air Force chiefs. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held detailed discussions with the Prime Minister on April 28, following which security was increased in the region.

The security situation in Jammu and Kashmir has been assessed regularly, with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi hosting a security meeting in Srinagar to assess the preparedness of the forces.
