Pakistan's Open Airspace During Attacks Put Civilian Planes at Risk, Says India

"Pakistan's irresponsible action has come to light once again. Even after carrying out an unsuccessful and unprovoked missile and drone strike on May 7 at 8:30 p.m., it never closed its civil airspace," Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said in a press conference about Operation Sindoor.

On Friday, the Centre charged Pakistan with employing civilian flights as a 'cover' while not closing down its airspace in the event of an attack on India.

She continued to explain, "Pakistan deliberately employed a civilian plane as a cover, well knowing that its attack on India would elicit a rapid air defence response."

Flight-tracking information at the time of the drone strike was also provided by Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. She noted that even though Indian airspace was vacant owing to its announced closure, civilian flights were ongoing on the Karachi-Lahore route.

Wing Commander Singh underlined, "The Indian Air Force demonstrated extraordinary restraint in reacting to maintain security for international civil aviation."

Additionally, she disclosed that the Pakistan army had constantly violated Indian air space on the western border, seeking to target military resources. One of these intrusions included a Pakistani unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) targeting the Bathinda military station, but the bid was repelled successfully.

As a response to Pakistan's brazen moves, India used armed drones to attack four air defence facilities, one of which managed to destroy an air defence radar facility.

Speaking of the recent incitements made by Pakistan, the officials mentioned that more than 300 to 400 drones were fired from around 36 border points, all of which were successfully defused by Indian forces.
