Amarinder Singh likely to be named NDA candidate for Vice President
Sources said that the NDA is likely to name the fromer Punjab Chief Minister as its candidate for the Vice President's post. "Several names are doing the rounds of which the prominent ones are Amarinder Singh, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. The vice presidential candidate will be finalised by the top BJP leadership and the Parliamentary Board," said a BJP insider.
Chemist killed for supporting Nupur, NIA to probe case
The deceased, a chemist shop owner was allegedly killed for supporting Nupur Sharma. The murder took place on June 21. "The conspiracy behind the killing, involvement of organisations and international linkages would be thoroughly investigated," said MHA official. Kolhe was brutally murdered in Maharashtra after he wrote a post in support of Nupur Sharma on Facebook.

India logs 17,092 fresh Covid cases, 29 deaths
In the same period, 29 Covid deaths were recorded taking the nationwide death toll to 5,25,168. Meanwhile, the active caseload has also increased to 1,09,568, accounting for 0.25 per cent of total positive cases. The recovery of 14,684 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,28,51,590. Consequently, the recovery rate stands at 98.54 per cent.
ED grills Sena MP Sanjay Raut for 10 hrs in money-laundering probe
While leaving the ED office after the marathon grilling, Raut said he has fully cooperated with the probe team, and answered all the queries put forward by the ED sleuths. "I have given whatever information and details they needed for the investigation... Statement of Nupur Sharma was recorded on June 18: Delhi Police
"A notice under Section 41A of the CrPc was served to Nupur Sharma and her statement was recorded as per the law on June 18," a senior Delhi Police officer told IANS. The police's reaction came hours after the Supreme Court came down heavily on the suspended BJP leader, saying that Sharma's 'loose tongue' has set the entire country 'on fire' and her 'irresponsible' remarks shows that she is 'obstinate and arrogant'.
Plea in SC seeks withdrawal of observation by judge in Nupur Sharma case
The letter petition filed by Ajay Gautam, addressed to the Chief Justice of India, said: "It has not been proved in any court of law that the statement made by Nupur Sharma is incorrect. Because telling the truth which is documented and acknowledged by clerics and society is not an offence." The plea sought a direction to the bench headed by Justice Surya Kant to withdraw the observations in the matter of Nupur Sharma so that she gets a chance of fair trial.
Normal to above normal rainfall in July for north, central, south India: IMD
The IMD also said "normal to below normal" rainfall is most likely over most parts of east and northeast India and areas adjacent to east central India and some parts of west south peninsular India. Monthly rainfall for July 2022 over the country as a whole is most likely to be normal, i.e., ranging between 94 and 106 per cent of the Long Period Average (LPA).
