Delhi HC seeks Police response on Mohammed Zubair's plea against laptop seizure

Zubair was seeking restoration of the device/laptop or document seized by the police, being beyond the allegation in the FIR. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav allowed four weeks' time for the Police to respond to the plea. The court also granted liberty to the fact-checker for filing rejoinder and additional documents in response.
National Herald case: Sonia leaves ED office after 3 hours of questioning

As of now no fresh summon has been issued to her. It is said that if required, Sonia Gandhi will be called again to join the probe, sources said. This morning she reached the ED office at 11 a.m., which was the third appearance in the case. She was accompanied by her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was carrying a medicine box with her.

Sonia arrived at the ED office here at 11 a.m. along with her daughter Priyanka Gandhi who was seen carrying a medicine box. Taking Sonia's ill health into consideration, the central agency has permitted Priyanka to be present in the office during the interrogation but in a separate room. On Tuesday, she was questioned for almost six hours in two sittings.
India reports 18,313 new Covid cases, 57 deaths

In the same period, the country has reported 57 more Covid deaths, taking the nationwide death toll to 5,26,167. Meanwhile, the active caseload of the country has marginally dropped to 1,45,026 cases, accounting for 0.33 per cent of the country's total positive cases.

Sonia Gandhi has been asked to appear before the ED by 11 a.m on Wednesday. On Tuesday, she was questioned for almost six hours with a lunch break in between. For her third day questioning, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will again accompany her with a medicine box.
Media must confine to honest journalism, shouldn't expand business interests: CJI

"When a media house has other business interests, it becomes vulnerable to external pressures. Often, the business interests prevail over the spirit of independent journalism. As a result, democracy gets compromised," he said at at the release of book "The Geeta Vijnana Upanishad" authored by Gulab Kothari. The Chief Justice stressed that independent journalism is the backbone of democracy and journalists are the eyes and the ears of the people.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar tweeted that the two were from the Border Security Force and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres's Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said that at the Butembo base "violent attackers snatched weapons from Congolese police and fired upon our uniformed personnel", killing three persons with the UN mission.
Defence Ministry clears arms procurement worth Rs 28,732cr for Army

The proposals were cleared on Tuesday by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. These proposals will enhance the overall combat prowess of the armed forces along the northern and western borders. "The Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition proposals of the armed forces amounting to Rs 28,732 crore were accorded by the DAC," the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Felicitating top diplomats from seven countries, including Kazakhstan and Mongolia, the Union minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has stepped up efforts to forge mutually beneficial bilateral ties with the international community to make India a 'Vishwaguru'. She was virtually addressing a meeting of ambassadors at Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence from countries like Mongolia, Rwanda, Guyana, Peru, Surinam, Trinidad and Tobago, and Kazakhstan.
SC says freebies to influence voters' serious issue, asks Centre for way to curb it

A bench, headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana asked the Centre, to find out from the Finance Commission, if there is a possibility of curbing state governments and political parties from promising and distributing irrational freebies to induce voters. Initially, the bench queried Additional Solicitor General K.M. Nataraj to find out Centre's stand on the issue.
