Earlier, on Wednesday, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) approved a proposal to rename Rajpath as 'Kartavya Path'. Following the approval, the entire stretch and area from the Netaji statue at India Gate to the Rashtrapati Bhavan is now called Kartavya Path.

The entire stretch from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will be open for the public after 20 months. However, the entire stretch will be thrown open to the public from September 9 onwards. Central Vista Avenue stretches from Vijay Chowk to India Gate. Work on its redevelopment had begun in February 2021 and was supposed to be completed by December 2021. However, after some delays, it is all set to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister on September 8. The refurbished Central Vista Avenue along the Rajpath will have state-wise food stalls, red granite walkways with greenery all around, vending zones, parking lots, and round-the-clock security.
India logs 5,379 new Covid cases, 27 deaths

India reported 5,379 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours, which is a marginal rise over the previous day's count of 4,417, said the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday. In the same period, the country recorded 27 more Covid related deaths taking the national fatalities tally to 5,28,057 as per the report.
Rear seat occupants sans seat belt to be penalised soon: Nitin Gadkari

Nitin Gadkari said that a notification in this regard will be issued in the next three days. Gadkari's comment came two days after industrialist and former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and his friend Jahangir Pandole were killed when their Mercedes car hit a road divider in Maharashtra's Palghar district. Mistry was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. The minister said that the highest number of people dying in road accidents in India belong to the 18-34 age group. On the sidelines of an event on Monday, Gadkari had said that people think that passengers sitting on the rear seat don't need to waer seat belts. 
Teesta water sharing issue with India will be resolved soon: Sheikh Hasina

"Both the countries have resolved several long-standing issues keeping the spirit of cooperation and friendship in mind. I hope that all other issues, including water sharing of Teesta river, would be resolved soon," the visiting Bangladeshi Prime Minister said. Disagreements between the two countries over the allocation of the river water has remained a subject of conflict for several decades.
