France's Foreign Minister calls on PM Modi
France FM Colonna is on an official visit to India from September 13-15. PM Modi, during the meeting, fondly recalled his recent meetings with President Macron in Paris and Schloss Elmau (Germany) and conveyed his desire to welcome the President in India at an early opportunity, a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said.
President Murmu to attend Queen Elizabeth's funeral
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences at the demise of Queen Elizabeth II. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited the British High Commission in New Delhi on September 12 to convey India's condolences. India also observed a day of national mourning on Sunday (September 11).
Absence of specific law on hate speech, using IPC, RP Act & MCC to control it: EC to SC
In a written response, the ECI said it is pertinent to point out at the outset that hate speech has not been defined under any existing law in India. "In the absence of any specific law governing hate speech and rumour mongering during elections, the ECI employs provisions of the IPC and the RP Act, 1951 to ensure of that member of political parties or even other persons do not make statements to the effect of creating disharmony between different sections of society", said the ECI.
India reports 5,108 new Covid cases, 31 deaths
The new fatalities increased the nationwide death toll to 5,28,216. The active caseload dipped to 45,749, accounting for 0.1 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 5,675 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,39,36,092. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.71 per cent.
No plans for Modi-Shehbaz meeting on sidelines of SCO summit
"No meeting is envisaged with the Indian Prime Mini�ster," Foreign Office spokesman Asim Iftikhar told Dawn news. An official said though a brief courtesy meeting between the two was possible, they would not be holding talks saying none of the two sides have sought a meeting.
PM Modi likely to meet Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif during SCO summit

Mukul Rohatgi to return as Attorney General
According to sources familiar with the development, the term of incumbent Attorney General K.K. Venugopal is ending on September 30, and he has refused to continue beyond his term, citing his advanced age. Venugopal, 91, was appointed as the country's top law officer on June 30, 2017, and he was given several extensions.
