India reports 1,326 new Covid cases, 8 deaths
The new fatalities increased the overall death toll to 5,29,024. The active caseload at 17,912 accounts for 0.04 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 1,723 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,41,06,656. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.77 per cent. Meanwhile, the daily and weekly positivity rates stood at 1.59 per cent and 1.08 per cent, respectively.
Death toll in Morbi bridge collapse reaches 141: Police official
The toll was confirmed to the media by Rajkot Range Inspector General of Police Ashok Yadav. However, the toll according to the Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi is 132, while two persons remain unaccounted for. He also said that when the two missing persons are located, the search and rescue operations will be over.

Covid-19: Omicron's XBB variant emerges as dominant in India, TN tops
International research organisation GISIAD, that has been monitoring the changes in the virus, has reported that there were 380 confirmed cases of XBB in India. Tamil Nadu has reported 175 cases, followed by West Bengal with 103 cases. The other states that have detected XBB virus are Odisha (35), Maharashtra (21), Delhi (18), Puducherry (16), Karnataka (9), Gujarat (2), and Rajasthan (1).

The Bench was told that both the petitioner and the detainee belonged to the Muslim religion. Seeking the petition's dismissal, the counsel for state said the detainee was minor as her date of birth was March 15, 2006.
Navy participates in maiden India-Mozambique-Tanzania tri-lateral exercise
The exercise has three broad objectives: capability development to address common threats through training and sharing of best practices, enhancing inter-operability, and strengthening maritime cooperation.
