All 10 of them, sources said, were extremely close confidants of Sandip Ghosh, the former and controversial principal of R.G. Kar, against whom the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting two parallel probes — the first being in relation to the ghastly rape and murder of a junior doctor of the hospital in August this year and the second being gross financial irregularities.

In the early months of this year, President Muizzu was present during Prime Minister Modi's swearing-in ceremony in India and had met him earlier at the COP28 summit in Dubai. After scrutinising the review petitions, a 7-judge Constitution Bench headed by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud noted that "there is no apparent error on the face of the record. No case for review under Order XLVII Rule 1 of the Supreme Court Rules 2013 has been made out. The review petitions are accordingly dismissed."

A bench of Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan was apprised by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that though several authorities were approached for an interim injunction, no relief was ever granted.

Pande was also once summoned to the CBI's Salt Lake office earlier and questioned in connection with the matter.
