A law student in Bengaluru succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, three days after she was allegedly stabbed by the brother of her former boyfriend following her decision to end their relationship.
The victim, identified as Amrutha, was pursuing a law degree while also working part-time at a pizza outlet. She was attacked near her residence in Kodihalli on July 13 and was admitted to hospital in critical condition, where she later died during treatment.
Police said Amrutha had met Dhanush through a family acquaintance, and the two had been in a relationship. She allegedly chose to end it after learning that he had hidden both his divorce and the fact that he had a child.
According to investigators, Dhanush's brother, Surya, allegedly threatened Amrutha over her decision to call off the relationship. On July 13, he allegedly intercepted her near her residence, leading to an argument. During the confrontation, Surya allegedly stabbed her in the chest and back before escaping from the scene.
Despite receiving medical treatment for her grievous injuries, Amrutha could not be saved and died in hospital on Wednesday.
Police have taken Surya, the alleged assailant, and Dhanush into custody. A case has been registered against both men, and the investigation is continuing. Amrutha's body has been sent to CV Raman Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
