New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday to congratulate the latter on his election victory last week. Luxon highlighted the tremendous contribution of Indian-Kiwis to New Zealand while expressing his hope for greater cooperation between the two countries. He posted this after the call on X:
"I have just spoken with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and congratulated him on his recent election victory. I told the Prime Minister how much I value the immense contribution that Indian-Kiwis make to New Zealand. We both agreed that there is so much more that our countries can do together!"
The two leaders reaffirmed the strong Indo-New Zealand relationship that is underpinned by shared democratic values and the strength of people-to-people ties. It welcomed the positive momentum imparted by recent high-level exchanges and mutual interest in advancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade and economic, animal husbandry, pharmaceuticals, education, and space.
Prime Minister Modi responded to Luxon's call with appreciation, emphasizing their joint commitment to further strengthen India-New Zealand ties:
"I thank Prime Minister Luxon for his call and warm felicitations. Reiterated our firm commitment to take forward India-New Zealand ties, which are rooted in shared democratic values and people-to-people ties."
Modi has also thanked Luxon for his concern about the welfare of the Indian diaspora residing in New Zealand.
