Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik accuses PM Modi of being 'arrogant' during discussion on farm laws

"When I told him that 500 of our own (farmers) had died… he said, ‘Did they die for me?’ I told him yes since you are the king," Malik added. The governor also said that Modi then asked him to meet Amit Shah which the Meghalaya governor did. Referring to the farmer's demands, the governor also said that some issues continue to be pending that the government needs to work towards.

Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was 'very arrogant' when the two had met to discuss the farm laws, adding they ended up having an argument.

"Main jab kisano ke mamle me Pradhan Mantri ji se milane gaya, to meri panch minute mein ladai ho gayi unse. Woh bahut ghamand mein the. Jab maine unse kaha, hamare 500 log mar gaye… to usne kaha, mere liye mare hain? (Maine) kaha aapke liye hi to mare the, jo aap raja bane huye ho… Mera jhagda ho gaya. Unhone kaha aab aap Amit Shah se mil lo. Main Amit Shah se mila…," he said while speaking at a social function at Dadri in Haryana.

"When I told him that 500 of our own (farmers) had died… he said, ‘Did they die for me?’ I told him yes since you are the king," Malik added. The governor also said that Modi then asked him to meet Amit Shah which the Meghalaya governor did.

Continuing his attack on the BJP government, Malik said: “What more could the PM have said other than what he said… We (farmers) should get decisions done in our favour. We should take their help to get legal guarantee for MSP instead of doing something that spoils everything.”

Referring to the farmer's demands, the governor also said that some issues continue to be pending that the government needs to work towards. These issues include the matter of MSP and the cases (against farmers). He said that the government needs to show honesty on that count and withdraw the cases which are filed against farmers.

Malik further said that if the government thinks that the agitation has ended, they're wrong as it has not ended but suspended. He made it clear that the agitation will start again if the farmers face any kind of injustice or atrocity.

"I will be with them (farmers) whatever the situation,” the governor added.

Malik also said he is not against khaps but the khaps should work carefully and they should not go against the Constitution and legal systems.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to react to the allegations put by the Meghalaya governor. However, the Congress party did not leave the opportunity to attack the prime minister. The Congress party reacted to Malik's statements and said that his remarks underlined all the "qualities" of PM Modi,"Vanity... cruelty... insensitivity."
