The Indian Army has asked the Pakistani army to take back the body of the terrorist who was killed on Sunday while he was trying to infiltrate into the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC). The infiltrator was trying to cross the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Keran sector.
"In a complete breach of the ongoing ceasefire understanding between the two armies across the Line of Control, an infiltration or BAT (Border Action Team) action was attempted in the Keran sector of Kupwara district on January 1. Swift action by the troops deployed at the Line of Control foiled the bid and eliminated the terrorist," said Major General Abhijit S Pendharkar, GOC 28 division, during a media briefing in Kupwara.
The Major General also said that swift action was taken by the troops deployed at the Line of Control and the Indian Security forces had later identified the infiltrator as a Pakistani national, Mohd Shabbir Malik. When the belongings of the killed terrorist was searched, a Pakistan national ID card and vaccination certificates issued by Pakistan's Ministry of Health were recovered. It also had a card with the infiltrator's photo in a Pak armed forces uniform. The belongings also indicated that the man could be part of Pakistan's BAT.
“This clearly establishes that Pakistan continues to sponsor cross border terror. A hotline communication has been made to the Pakistan Army asking them to take back the body of the killed individual,” said Major General Pendharkar.

The army official said that the incident site was located on the Pakistani side of the Anti Infiltration Obstacle System and that the area is kept under surveillance by the Indian Army to effectively counter any nefarious activity by the infiltrators or Pakistan Army. He further said that the body was recovered with one AK rifle, ammunition, and seven grenades. Surveillance of area is still in progress, he added.
After years of unrest on the border between the two armies, the Indian Army and its Pakistan counterpart had agreed to strictly observe a ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC) in February 2021.
