Karnataka MLC poll results: BJP wins 12 seats

After winning 12 seats now BJP will have a total strength of 38 in the upper house of the state. The Bharatiya Janta Party is expected to elect its own member as the chairman of legislative council. Independent candidate Lakhan Jarkiholi, won the Belagavi seat, where BJP stood third. The candidates in elections were predominently male, and only woman candidate of congress stood in the election.

Karnataka MLC Election Results were declared today, where BJP won majority of seats followed by INC. Out of 25 seats BJP won 12, Congress 11, JD(S) and others won one seat each. After winning 12 seats now BJP will have a total strength of 38 in the upper house of the state. The Bharatiya Janta Party is expected to elect its own member as the chairman of legislative council. Independent candidate Lakhan Jarkiholi, won the Belagavi seat, where BJP stood third. The candidates in elections were predominently male, and only woman candidate of congress stood in the election.

1. By winning 12 seats in the MLC elections, BJP now have a total of 38 members in the council of state. Congress came second by winning 11 seats, JD(S) and an independent member won 1 seat each. The elections were held on 25 seats. BJP already had 26 members in state council.

2. Moreover, the Bharatiya Janta Party will elect its own candidate as the chairman of the MLC. And with this JD(S) is likely to lose the seat of chairman, which is presently held by senior party leader Basavaraj Horatti.

3. Lakhan Jarkiholi, the only independent candidate in the election who won from Belagavi defeated the BJP candidate from the constituency. Whereas the grandson of former Prime Minister of India, Suraj Revanna, registered a thumping victory in Hassan.

4. President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee D.K. Shivakumar, said that  "Congress candidates have secured more votes and came close to victory. It is a good development," he said.

5. Nearly 90 candidates fought the elections, where 89 of them were male and the elections saw only 1 female candidate Gayathri Shanthe Gowda, from Congress.
